Renting a car in the Dominican Republic is a great way to get around and see the island! There are Sosua car rental places, Cabarete, Puerto Plata, Cabrera and most other towns and cities. Dominican Car Rental businesses are often know as Dominican Rent-a-Car or something similar. Prices generally start from less than US$30 per day, depending on the type of vehicle you choose, and the length of time you are booking.

There are many different types of vehicles available to rent, ranging from basic small cars such as Chevrolet Ave, to small jeeps, Suzuki Vitaras, Gran Vitaras, and SUV's such as Mitsubishi Monteros, Ford Explorers, Lexus, and mini-vans (people carriers) such as Chevrolet Ventures, Toyota Previas and the like. Of course, if you just want something to scoot around town, why not hire a scooter or a small motorbike (moped), known locally as "motos"?

If you are feeling adventurous, you can hire an off-road motorbike for hitting the trails, or a faster road bike, something like a Honda CBR600cc, which will certainly provide all the thrills you can imagine when you take into account the local traffic!

Most car hire businesses can collect you from your hotel or the airport and arrange to collect the car from you at the end of your rental period. Make sure you are aware of any hidden costs. A good car hire company will make you aware of all the charges and provide adequate insurance.

Car rental companies will generally ask to see your passport and driving license. They may require a copy of these, but it is generally not a good idea to leave your original documents with them, as you may need them while you are traveling.
