Pharmacies

There are pharmacies aplenty in most towns such as Sosua, Cabarete and Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic! They are usually easily accessible and sell a range of drugs and medicines over the counter, many of which you would need a prescription for in your home country. They are usually fairly well-stocked, and even if they haven't got a particular brand in stock, they can ofnet arrange to collect it for you that same day or will have a local or generic brand that will be very similar.

Local and generic branded drugs and medicines tend to be much cheaper than foriegn imported brands that you may be used to back home. Pharmacies (or Chemists as they are often known in the UK) are known as "Farmacias" here, so shouldn't be too hard to remember.

They are a vital business if you have forgotten to bring your suncream lotion on vacation with you, or get an upset tummy! Just remember the word "Farmacia" and someone will always be able to point you in the right direction.
