JUST WANTED TO WARN EVERYONE THAT THE ATTORNEYS ABOVE ROCKYS IN SOSUA - RAFAEL RODRIGUEZ AND HIS COUSIN SAUL SHOULD BE AVOIDED AT ALL COST TO YOUR WALLET!!! THEY TRIED TO SCAM MY CLIENT INTO PAYING usd$4000 TO DO A SIMPLE CONTRACT TO SELL HIS HOUSE. THEY SAID IF HE DIDN'T PAY THEM, THEY WOULD TELL THE BUYER THAT THE HOUSE HAD PROBLEMS AND NOT TO BUY IT. THEY ALSO STATED THEY HAD MANY PROPERTIES FOR SALE THAT WERE "BETTER DEALS" THAN HIS HOUSE THAT THEY WOULD OFFER TO THE SELLER INSTEAD!! THE SELLER AND BUYER TOLD THEM TO GO TO HELL AND COMPLETED THE SALE WITH NO PROBLEM WITH A REPUTABLE ATTORNEY.
THE BEST AND MOST TRUSTED ATTORNEY/NOTARY IN SOSUA IS DR. EPIFANIO VASQUEZ LOCATED NEXT TO THE OLD SEACRETS BAR, TEL.809-571-3610 or Dra. ARGENTINA BRUGAL IN PT. PLATA. STAY SAFE!!!

Sorry to hear this, but you have to realize - most lawyers here are dishonest.
The story you just related would not even be considered dishonest by many lawyers here - just the way they work.
At least 7000, probably 1000's more are not even legally allowed to practice, yet they do.
Here, you need to do most of the work yourself, stick with a lawyer that has built up a good reputation amongst foreigners, and then double check everything they do for you.

Some simple rules to follow when talking to a lawyer here or in any country. First you have to realize that here many lawyers are fake. That means they do not have a license. They may tell you it is not required here, but the law does require it. Second, you need to know that to get a license here you do not have to take a test. You finish your law school, get your documents together and apply. Simple as that. You don't have to prove you are capable or knowledgable. So when you are looking for a lawyer here, follow these rules...
1) Make sure they have a license. It isn't hard to get one, but having one is better than not having one. It is criminal fraud for someone to act as a lawyer without a license. If they tell you, especially in writing that they are a lawyer you actually can sue them in criminal court. Though you will lose more time and money to do that so it probably is not worth it to you unless you really are after revenge.
2) Make sure they have an office. And I don't mean a little room beside the barber shop or the rental car place. A real office. Don't meet at a restaurant or in your house or at their house. Demand to meet them at their office or search for someone else. If they can afford a real office they might be doing good business so that is a start.
3) Make sure they are not working alone. There should at least be a legal assistant and a secretary. There could possibly be other lawyers at the office as well. If they are doing good business and have a lot of clients they will need at least one legal assistant and a secretary. If they can do everything on their own then they don't have a lot of clients so they may not be very good.
I would recommend Guzman Ariza not too far from the German Bakery Moser. They are not very expensive, respond fast and always do what they say. They have many lawyers working there and they have many offices throughout the country, including in Santo Domingo which may be helpful depending on what you need an attorney for. Sure, they do cost a bit more than the guy next to the barber, but it will be money will spent because you will not get ripped off. But if you don't like them at least try to stick to the three simple rules I gave you and hopefully you will be OK.

By the way, the license should be a photo card. It looks like a driver's license, but it says it is for the Attorneys (Abogado) and has their license number on it. They should allow you to copy it. If they shy away from letting you copy it or at least record the dates and the license number then don't do business with them. They have no reason not to allow you to have this information. You can use it to bring action against them later if they do wrong you in some way.

I agree with cjp.
There are probably more 'lawyers' here than there are motoconchos.
And by lawyers, I mean people who say they are lawyers and preface their name with 'Lic'. Many of them cannot even write Spanish correctly, so I doubt they had to take a law test!

Mr. Rafael. Regarding Kerlyn Sanchez. Everyone has their opinion on every lawyer knows, for these are the sites for review. You think one thing and I think another. Only Jesus is the reason, we only think or make opinions.
Good or bad. The opinion is what makes a society free. Something that in Cuba or other countries does not happen.
