It took the charity I work for about a year to get recognised as a non-profit organisation (asociaci�n sin fines de lucro). I think that you will find that you have to use a local lawyer to do the work for you. We used Lisa Ewest (lisalegalsolutions.com) and were happy with what she did for us. One of our supporters met the costs involved (which were considerable). You will need to provide information about the aims of your organisation and to identify a Board of Directors which meets the requirements defined in Dominican law. Once established, the non-profit association will need to submit an annual financial report.

With regard to bringing things into the country, you may find it best for your members to bring things with them as part of their luggage, rather than shipping goods separately.
