Costambar

I'm looking to buy a property on the North Coast and a realtor I've been emailing recommended Costambar as a good buy at the moment.

Can anyone offer some impartial advice on whether its a good place to buy there. There seem to be some good prices.

depends what you are looking for. It's pretty quiet there - a lot of retirees - very different in feel to say Cabarete.

Are you going to live there full time and what will you be doing - makes a big difference on where you buy.

Costambar is trying to revive itself. Many properties are run down. It is a pretty beach, but also a distance from other areas. If you are hooked on the north coast you might want to look at Sosaua and Cabarete. We live between the two. We also sell real estate here so let me know if i can help

dear good at heart, I have been living in costambar since 1992 and would not live any where else. Of course there are hick ups but its true we have every thing we need and Puerto Plata is only 5 minutes away. If you want to look at the available homes or condos than get in touch with me as I am a realtor in Costambar and would love to help you either in Costambar or anywhere else that suits you. regards Monique

There are 2 schools of thought regarding property in Costambar or anywhere else in the DR.

The first is "buy land they've stopped making it". Invest in property & it'll make money for you in the long term. BUT ....... right now the property market globally in in a slump & if you need to leave/realise your asset it can be very difficult to sell at a reasonable price or may take years to sell.

Many people I speak to take the second route. They rent a house or condo, put their capital in the bank & live off the interest, which is tax-free in the DR. If I were looking for a holiday home this is the route I'd take because it's totally hassle-free when you're out of the country.

Just for the record we live in Costambar, bought a condo here 2 years ago, run a bar in town ... & don't sell real estate lol
