The bloodletting at the armed services continued yesterday, bring the total number of forced retirements to 31 in 4 days. The latest swing of the axe brought off  heads in the the National Police and AMET, including the current director of AMET Rafael Oscar Bencosme Candelier and former Police Chiefs Bernardo Santana Páez and Manuel de Jesás Párez Sánchez.

The decree 130-10 signed by President Leonel Fernández, also puts into retirement the first woman to suffer this fate, Daysi Antonia Liriano Paulino of the National Police.

These latest cuts have dropped the total number of generals in the Police from 53 to 39.

Also under Decree 131-10, Fernandez appointed Brigadier Generals Josá Hernández Polanco Gomez as general director of the Police Criminal Investigation Department; Alberto Olivo, general director of the Police Crime Prevention Department; and Manuel Geraldo Rodriguez Miranda, Administrative Director of the National Drug Agency (DNCD).
