25% of electricity network down in the East
posted on: Jun 24 2010 8:9 by Royston. Viewed 362 times.The Electricity distribution company for the East, EdeEste, has reported a 25% failure of its network due to the recent severe weather.
The wind, rain and resultant landslides have caused considerable damage, affecting around 33,000 customers. who have been suffering prolonged blackouts.
A spokesman also explained that some circuits had been left unconnected as the communities they served had been under water.
EdeEste said their repair crews were working on the most urgent cases first and were now supplying more than 82% of demand.
The spokesman explained that while the company does have a contingency plan for natural phenomena, the conditions experienced thus far have not reached the criteria for activation of the plan..
The main areas affected by the current problems are; Toro de Guerra, Hainamosa, La Caleta, San Pedro, Higuey, Bayaguana, Sabana Perdida, el Seibo, Invivienda, Timbeque, Villa Mella, Sabana de la Mar, La Victoria, Alma Rosa, Los Mina, Los Tres Brazos and La Barquita, El Capotillo
