4 seriously injured as Caribe Tours bus hits bikes in Puerto Plata
posted on: Apr 22 2010 8:33 by Royston. Viewed 790 times.Four people, including an Italian tourist, were seriously injured in a Caribe tours bus crash on Tuesday. The bus apparently ran into two motor bikes near the entrance to Universitario del Atlntico (CURA-UASD) in Puerto Plata.
The injured were named as; Eddy Rafael Ramos, 46 years old, Italian tourist Alexandra Trostocano, 36, Melina Valle, 34 and Yerli Espinosa, 29.
The victims were rushed to the Ricardo Limardo public hospital, where they received emergency treatment.
Ramos was working as a moto-taxi driver, taking the Italian from Costambar, when his bike was rammed by the Caribe Tours bus. The other two injured were riding a pasola, or motor scooter.
Ramos suffered injuries so severe, he was transferred to the University hospital in Santiago. The others were transferred to private clinics where they are still being treated.
The bus driver was arrested at the scene by police officers from the Program of Alcoholic Beverage Control (COBA). Later, he was taken into custody by the AMET traffic police for investigation pending possible charges.
