The Directorr of the Emergency Operations Center (COE), General Juan Manuel Méndez, called for people to be calm and said there is no warning of a tsunami.
He explained that the specialized seismic events unit was activated and that they had no reports of damage, although they would begin to do assessments during the day.
He said that due to the intensity of the tremor there may have occurred some type of cracking, but they had no reports as yet.
Since the event occurred, people began to report it through social networks, especially in the provinces of Ocoa and Baní where the tremor was felt most intensively.
