The study presents information on the dynamics of the migration flows, the social profiles of immigrants, their incorporation into the labor markets, as well as the conditions in which they spend their working hours.
This study which was released at an event at the Dominican Fiesta Hotel, found that more than half of workers on construction sites are Haitian, approximately 53%, while 47% are Dominican.
With regard to labor in the production of bananas, according to the data, Haitian workers are widely prevalent in the farms with 63%, while only 33.7% are Dominican.
"The outcome of this study is a vital step for the guidance and development of public policies that contribute to the implementation of labor regulations," said the Minister of Labor, Francisco Dominguez Brito.
Further research, presented by the Director of Migration, José Ricardo Taveras, unveiled the flow of Haitian immigrants into the country, and the reasons why they choose to reside in Dominican territory.
It indicated that more than half of the immigrants, around 53.6%, live primarily in the Dominican Republic although they expect to return to Haiti at some point; and one fifth, 19.3%, live permanently in the Dominican Republic and have no thoughts of returning to Haiti.
According to data presented in the survey, the main entry route of Haitian immigrants into the country is over the border in the Dajabón and Elías Piña provinces.
