Some 83 million dollars were spent on the reconstruction of Haiti last year, and 88% of the funds pledged in May 2010 by the international community were transferred or pledged for several projects, two years after the earthquake of January 12, 2010 that stalled the progress that had made this country over the past decade. Marc-André Franche, Deputy director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), said to LISTÍN DIARIO Haiti also could remove in the past year more than half of the ten million cubic meters of rubble left by the earthquake of January 2010, recycled 20 percent of these wastes and dropped from a million and a half to 550 thousand the number of victims, in an effort to unusual to recover and bury the last vestiges of the worst disaster in its history.

Franche added that the Agency could create since the first months of the earthquake to date 300,000 jobs u000atemporary in a country whose economy was collapsed.

"The country achieved 80 per cent of children still living in camps for victims to go to school and 30% of the projects to be executed by the central Government and local governments, even in the midst of an electoral crisis which was resolved with the election of a President, and the absence of a Prime Minister for five months", said representative.

Second anniversary
Haiti yesterday commemorated the second anniversary of the earthquake in January 2010 with a ceremony at Titanyin, 20 kilometres northwest of the Haitian capital, on national route No. 1, where the largest mass grave cavada after the devastating earthquake, is now a monument. "Here are buried is not known how many people, thousands." "It is a mass grave of 50 square meters by thirty-two feet deep," said to LISTÍN DIARIO Jean Claude Verdier, an engineer in charge of raising the u000apodiums in this place where today there will be a ceremony to remember the day in that two years ago, an earthquake of 7.3 degrees caused nearly 300,000 fatalities, one million three hundred thousand victims and property damage of $ 7,900 million. The Haitian Government has pointed out that the main commitment fulfilled in 2011 was school allowance of 903.000 children across the country, which includes transportation and lunch.

The Haitian President Michel Martelly has also referred to programme 16/6 (which is to deliver to the affected 20,000 gourdes ñunos 500 dólaresñ that they can afford a new place of residence).
