The group is accused of engaging in strong commitments with the drug ring of Quirino Ernesto Paulino Castillo, according to statements made by U.S. investigator Angel Martinez from Washington. Congress also reported that five active generals were being consulted to explain the military link to drug trafficking in the Dominican Republic.
Including the nine under the extradition request, it has been reported that a total of 147 military personnel are involved in the Quirino case.
Martinez also revealed that the retired police general and current director of prisons, Manuel Perez Sanchez, will be requested by the U.S. Congress to explain hundreds of calls about drug operations made from Dominican prisons.
Perez Sanchez responded by saying that he would be happy to co-operate with authorities fighting drug trafficking.
The list of extradition requests includes Florentino Florentino, Army Major General and current director general of border development. In 2004, when Quirino was arrested, he was director of the National Department of Investigations.
