Alarm, new time by tremor that exceeds 5 degrees

An earthquake felt this afternoon in different cities throughout the country including the National District and Santiago de los Caballeros. The quake had a magnitude of 5.3 degrees on the Richter scale, according to the report of the University of Puerto Rico.

Luis De León geologist said that the epicenter occurred to a few 24.26 km west of Nagua, with 84 km of depth. However, the Institute seismological of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, said that the earthquake occurred in Gaspar Hernández, Espaillat province, with a depth of 13 km.

The earthquake occurred at 4: 49 minutes this afternoon and caused that in some centres where offered teaching students to leave towards the green areas. Overcome the shock, everything has returned to normal.

Reports from Santiago describe the tremor sparked panic leading to the departure of hundreds of employees from their places of work.
