American Airlines plane comes off the runway at Santiago

The accident happened on Wednesday as the New York bound flight was preparing for take-off.

The spokesman for the airport, Santiago Gonzalez, said no one was hurt or injured, but part of the landing gear sank in the soft ground, forcing the immediate evacuation of passengers.

Flight 122 was canceled by the airline but the spokesman said the plane was quickly recovered and later that day was passed as fit to fly.

Santiago Gonzalez said that despite this setback all activities remained normal in the Cibao Airport, and operations carried on unaffected.
