American arrested at Las Americas airport with cocaine

A US citizen was arrested at Las Americas International Airport (AILA) trying to board a Jet Blue flight to New York.

Dominican-born Shadai Nunez was found to have four packets of white powder, suspected to be cocaine, strapped to his legs, said the DNCD  spokesman Roberto Lebron.

The prisoner was transferred to the headquarters of the anti narcotics agency and will taken for arraignment later.

He said members of the Joint Center of Information and Coordination  (CICC), attached to the AILA, had received information about  a man in his 30�s leaving on the Jet Blue flight, so they had remained alert.

The defendant was questioned on Thursday at the headquarters of DNCD to discover who had hired him to take the drugs to New York so there is a possibility that other people will be arrested in connection with this drugs 'mule', according to Lebron�s report.
