An American man was arrested in Santiago international airport while trying to travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico, allegedly with a 1Kg package of cocaine between his legs.
Jose Diaz was arrested trying to board American Airlines flight 4831.
A statement from National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) said that Diaz was typical of drug traffickers who seek to use the country as a bridge to take narcotics to other destinations.
The staff of the Center for Information and Joint Coordination (CICC) decided to inspect his luggage and then found the drug during a body search. He was also checked at a private medical facility for drugs being carried internally.
In a separate incident at the weekend a 67 year old man was arrested in Guatapanal with 33 marijuana plants and about half a pound of the plant, packaged for sale.
The home of Jesus Espinal was raided by DNCD who found 33 plants up to 6ft high in the courtyard as well as a quantity of cash.
