A manager of the local health system Fernando León Castañeda, told the radio station RPP that 17 people were admitted in hospital Hospital Augusto Hernandez Mendoza of the city.
"The majority are injuries, cuts, cutting wounds." There is a patient who has a fracture in the foot and another with pelvis fracture. "Everyone is stable, at the moment there are no patients which have gravity," noted.
The regional President of Ica, Alonso Navarro Cabanillas, told the station electric power service is still not restored in some areas of the capital of the region, added.
At least ten properties of Ica remained uninhabitable after the strong earthquake which rocked the region and other cities in the country shortly after midnight, said RPP the u000aTechnical Secretary of Civil Defense of Ica, Erin Gómez.
A large number of families spent the night in the streets for fear of aftershocks, reported the station on its website.
The Geophysical Institute of the Peru reported that the quake had a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale with its epicenter 47 kilometres southwest of the city and 48 kilometers deep.
The earthquake occurred at the 05.11 hours GMT, according to records kept by the service of monitoring geological of the United States.
The movement has been localized to 39,2 km deep, 15 kilometers southeast of the town of Ica and 280 to the SSE from the capital, Lima.
