Appeal of the country is the best measure to WTO

Appeal by Dominican Republic to the report issued by the Group of experts from the World Trade Organization (WTO) on the application filed by several Central American countries to safeguards to regulate imports of sacks, is the best measure to be taken, because it lasted at least seven months over the validity of this provision has given favourable to local industry results.

Accomplishments cited by the application of safeguards is the increase in the domestic, before production of the adoption of that measure was of two million 147,957 kg, equivalent to 27 million 923,421 units of polypropylene bags

Only in the first six months of this u000ayear production has risen to two million 345 thousand kilograms, which is equivalent to 36,502,507 units of polypropylene bags

In regard to imports of finished sacks this had been reduced by a 250.52%, to over a million 220,498 kilograms before the measure to 198,610 kilograms in six months.

Highlights that this is a fact to take into account to assess the success of the measure, especially if you notice that Dominican Republic domestic prices are equivalent or less than those in the region, in addition to that there are now four or five companies instead of one and two assemblers and the competition is much more free and effective to benefit of the customers.
