Approved changes to law regulating weapons

The Chamber of Deputies yesterday approved on first reading the draft amending the law on the control and regulation of firearms, ammunition, explosives and other related materials and purpose of which is to reduce the large number of violent deaths in the country with these objects.

Initiative, the authorship of the Deputy of the Social Christian Reformist Party (PRSC), Victor - Ito - Bisonó seeks also to combat the illicit trafficking of firearms, threatening citizens, will be known in second reading at the meeting on Thursday.

The initiative, with several years in Congress, was adopted with the favourable vote of the 126 members present. The project establishes harden dramatically using, carrying, possession and marketing of illegal weapons, and criminalizes the trafficking of firearms, as well as alteration and modification of the gun fire.

Bisonó explained this would enable that many u000anational and foreign companies to invest in the industry that produce those components and accessories for the Assembly of weapons. The project aims to prevent and reduce the management and use of firearms to achieve collective peace of society Dominican.

In addition, members sent to the Commission of the Treasury, with deadline until tomorrow, the loans for US$ 70 and $20 million, totaling $90 million, which will be used by the Government for programs social.

The funding by $70 million will be used in the programme performance and accountability for development policies of the social sectors, while for US$ 20 million will be used in the programme of support for the national system of employment in the youth programme which will run the Ministry of labour.
