Asked to strengthen buildings

The regional North from the Colegio Dominicano engineers, architects and Surveyors (CODIA) and the society of engineers structuralist Dominicans raised yesterday on the Government to initiate a plan for strengthening of public structures, especially hospitals and schools to the constant earth tremors that have been in the country in recent days.

Martin Mejia, President of the North Codia Regional, and Elvin Cabrera, main directors of the Association of engineers Structuralists in the area of the Cibao, said that so far the movements have been of moderate intensity and damage is minimal. "These low-intensity earthquakes are giving us time so we prepare, hopefully when happens a greater intensity event we're ready and it's not too late", they explained.

While, in María Trinidad Sánchez, about 21 public schools and the headquarters of the Regional University Center for the Northeast, more eight u000aschools of the municipality in Samaná, Sánchez, were affected with cracks in its walls due to the earthquake of 5.3 last Monday and whose replica occurred yesterday, causing the low attendance of students of the batches evening and night in all public and private.
