Payment of financial guarantees of RD$2 million should allow them to leave jail, where they had been sent for pre-trial detention for eight months.
Among the accused are relatives of leaders of the ruling political party, the PLD, including Adalberto Rosa Rosario who is the son of a deputy.
In addition to paying the financial guarantee, Miguel Angel Lazala , Gerald Estvez Pea and Adalberto Rosa Rosario, who at the time of the indictment were customs employees, are banned from visiting the Customs offices for the period leading up to the trial.
According to the indictment from prosecutors, the defendants were paid by various companies not to check their containers so that these businesses could avoid paying tax.
