The Director General of Customs ( DGA ) has confirmed that the law prohibits the importation of vehicles more than five years old. He confirmed that Article 2 of Law 04-07 applies equally to domestic appliances and motor vehicles.

The DGA urged people with older cars waiting at the docks to pass through customs, to arrange for them to be shipped back out of the country. He explained that after 20 days such vehicles would be confiscated.

He went on to clarify that there is also a ban on the import of scrap cars for salvage.
"Vehicles and appliances imported in violation of these laws must be reshipped within 20 days, counted from the date of arrival in port , or we will proceed to the confiscation of the same," said the DGA .
The ban, however, does not apply to goods imported by diplomats or diplomatic missions.
