Tourism Minister Francisco Javier Garcia said that the clean-up day will cover the four regions under the co-ordination of the Infrastructure Committee of Holiday Resorts (CEIZTUR).
"Our goal is to maintain and preserve the purity of all the beaches and resorts for bathers, tourists and all those who take advantage of the holiday of Holy Week to seek relaxation in those places," he said.
He explained that Ministry crews will be deployed with a team of regional co-ordinators and provincial supervisors with cleaning tools, tanks, dumpsters and vehicles to do the job.
Also, they will provide public services by placing portable toilets and tents on the beaches with most visitors, he added.
He said that the plan involves a communication strategy to promote, educate and raise awareness of the need to preserve the environment in the beaches and resorts.
"We will distribute educational materials on the proper use of swimming pools; signs and billboards will be placed to explain the proper use of public spaces and we will hand out T-shirts and caps advertising the cleanup day," he added.
He explained that to ensure the success of the day the country has been divided into four major regions. The North is composed of the provinces Monseor Novel (Bonao), Snchez (Nagua), Snchez Ramrez (Cotu), La Vega, Hermanas Mirabal (Salcedo), Espaillat (Moca), Santiago, San Francisco de Macors, Saman, Puerto Plata, Valverde (Mao), Montecristi, Santiago Rodrguez and Dajabn.
In the Eastern region, the day will cover the provinces of San Pedro de Macoris, El Seybo, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, La Altagracia (Higuey) and La Romana.
The South will include San Cristobal, Peravia, San Jos de Ocoa, Azua, Barahona, Independencia, Pedernales, San Juan, Bahoruco and Elas Pia.
The fourth area is the beaches and recreation areas in the province of Santo Domingo.
