Blackout at the National Palace, events disrupted

After the apology from the CDEEE yesterday and assurances that electricity supplies were improving, President Leonel Fernndez himself suffered  indignity and embarrassment as the latest wave of blackouts even hit the National Palace in Santo Domingo.

Two public events were affected by a 25 minute power outage at the Palace at 12.25pm.

First Lady Margarita Cedeno was due to present the final report of the "Strategic Planning Office of the First Lady, in the Green Room of Government House, but this event had to be canceled.

The second event, which had to start late, was the proclamation of the city of Santo Domingo as Capital of Culture in the Hall of Ambassadors. This celebration of culture in thecapital city was, embarrassingly, conducted in the dark and stifling heat.

Administrative Secretary of the Presidency, Luis Manuel Bonetti, said it appears the outage was widespread, and originated in the area of the AES generator. It affected, he admitted, several activities of the National Palace.

The vice president of the Dominican Corporation of State Electrical Companies (CDEEE), Celso Marranzini, attributed the outage, to a disturbance in the Hainamosa-Palamara transmission line, which was quickly corrected and the system restored.

Marranzini explained that this "disturbance" caused some circuits to go out of service and produce a partial disruption of electricity service in some parts of the country.

This is kind of funny. Now that the president and his first lady see how inconveiniant it is living in the dark they may actually do something instead of attending photo ops and hosting parties.
