The Public Relations Manager, Santiago Gonzlez, confirmed the airport received an anonymous call that an explosive device had been placed in the airport.
Gonzalez said he immediately activated the emergency safety plan of the terminal, in coordination with members of state security. After a thorough investigation it was determined that it was a false alarm.
"Because of the alert we proceeded with the evacuation of visitors, passengers and airport employees," said the executive.
He stressed that after the security agencies had checked all areas of the terminal and found that there was nothing abnormal, half an hour after the evacuation, flights were resumed and regular activities returned to normal.
However, he reported that Airport Security, CESA and State investigators will trace the call that gave the false alarm to establish responsibility.
The operation involved members of the Army, National Police, Terminal Security, fire, civil defense and trained dogs.
