Buses to undergo safety inspections

The operation, which start on Monday 8 and concludes on Thursday 11, will be conducted at the various bus terminals in National District and Santo Domingo province.

Buses and minibuses will be inspected to ensure they are mechanically sound and that the bodywork is in a suitable condition to safely carry passengers. Tires will also be checked for pressure and wear.
Vehicles which fail the inspection will not be allowed into service and the OTTT will be supported by armed units in case of trouble.
During the operation OTTT will be issuing leaflets to drivers exhorting them to drive carefully and keep their passengers and other road users safe.
They will also be publishing telephone numbers for the public to report any negligence or reckless driving.
Loudspeakers will be used to urge drivers and holiday makers to exercise caution and restraint, and keep in mind that Holy Week is a period for family unity and for the remembrance of Christian values.
