Calls to clamp down on unofficial car imports

In a press release, Acofave argues that most of these companies, which it does not identify, are not even properly regulated, allowing them to assume that some even engaged in money laundering, from internal and external sources.
Given the unfair competition that this creates, the dealers urged Customs and Excise and other tax authorities to enforce the relevant laws, saying nobody should be exempt from the law.
The document argues that "the members of Acofave are legally organized companies with large investments in infrastructure, workshops, spare parts and personnel training."
It claims that as a whole, their members' companies have for years contributed more than 25% of the taxes levied in the country.
"It is unacceptable to have in our society a group of unofficial importers who are disrespectful of the law, many of whom do not pay taxes and are routinely under-invoicing and smuggling, yet are free to behave like this in our country."
