Jean arrived in the country from Haiti, having visited her native country with her husband, Jean-Daniel Lafond, Canadian Ambassador Todd Kuiack , the Assistant Deputy Minister Emmanuelle Sajous and Alexandre Leveque, director for the Caribbean, Central and Regional policy.
Speaking to reporters after meeting with the President at the National Palace, the governor said that Canada was grateful for the great help given by the Dominican Republic after the earthquake which hit Haiti on 12 January.
She said the men and women of her country, like the Dominican Republic, had been deeply moved by the situation in Haiti and made every effort to extend their solidarity to the nation.
"Canada congratulates the Dominican Republic for the leadership taken in response to the earthquake in Haiti, for all the support and assistance it has provided both military and civilian," she said.
She said the entire world needed to add its efforts to prevent Haiti from collapsing.
