CDEEE promises 24 hour power is back

The announcement was made by Celso Marranzini, vice president of the Dominican Corporation of State Electrical Companies (CDEEE).
Marranzini said that with the Los Mina V and VI plants, and Puerto Plata's San Felipe plant coming back on line, the government now guarantees 80% of demand.
The official made the announcement after a meeting with President Leonel Fernndez and electrical industry executives.
He said that from now on sectors on the 24 hour contracts would receive full time supplies and other areas would be on 18 hours a day.
He revealed that during the meeting it was agreed to obligate public corporations which are exempt from payment for electricity to reduce consumption to help conserve energy.
Marranzini explained that these companies have been allocated a budget of RD$3,400 million for this purposes so he expected significant savings in energy from institutions such as Health, Education, Police, Armed Forces and others.
The official denied that the blackouts were the result of financial problems. He blamed delays in fuel deliveries and breakdowns of equipment.
However, he admitted that the CDEEE owes a debt of more than 200 million pesos to the generators, which must be paid before 27 March, as required by agreement with the International Monetary Fund.
