Chavez arrives today to sign purchase agreement for REFIDOMSA

The president of Venezuela, Hugo Chvez, arrives today in the Dominican Republic to sign the  agreement for the sale of 49 percent of  shares in the Dominican Petroleum Refinery (Refidomsa).

The paper work for this agreement has been dragged out of the file several times already over the past months, but so far, has always ended up back in the drawer. Most recently, it was president Fernandez who traveled to Venezuela to sign on the 19th of last month, but that event was canceled while he was in the country for reasons that never really became clear.

Worryingly for proponents of the deal, no details have been announced of the time of the arrival of Chavez or which airport will host the reception. Also, no details have been announced of any schedule of activities during his stay. However, sources are saying that invitations have been issued for a reception, the much vaunted signing and a dinner.

Chavez will be accompanied by the president of Petroleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA), the director of Petrocaribe and Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro
