CONFENAGRO calls for more action against the cuatrerismo

At the time of showing concern for the rise of the cuatrerismo in the various regions of the country, the National Confederation of agricultural producers (CONFENAGRO) stated that so far called authorities to impose order nothing have been able to deal with the situation.

In that regard expressed the livestock producer Eric Rivero and engineer Luis Bonilla, directors of Confenagro.

Rivero, President of the Dominican Association of milk producers (APROLECHE), said that the cuatrerismo has become, together with the lack of institutionalization and imports, a pest for farmers.

Said that the cuatrerismo has continued its advance by different areas of the country, to cover virtually the entire country.

"We reiterate our call that will approach the problem with the seriousness of the situation," said Rivero.

Said that in the case of Hato Mayor, where a court sentenced several people u000aaccused of cuatrerismo, and that public rumor indicates these people were tried as criminals who have relapsed into the practice of the cuatrerismo, "we ask that justice be done similarly with cases in other parts of the country and that have affected farmers, and that there are sanctions against those responsible for".

Reclamó of the Chief of police, major general Jose Armando Polanco Gomez, which is still yet to materialize a meeting with farmers and other sectors to define the situation to continue against the scourge of the cuatrerismo national.

The engineer Bonilla, representative of producers of bananas in Confenagro, said that in this case it is a sector which, like the farmer, has traditionally been unprotected, despite its strategic importance for the contributions that makes to the country, with regard to the production of milk and meat, food considered priority in the basic diet of the u000apopulation.

"Confenagro called on the Government to take letters in the subject and allow us to work and develop our activities in the field safely, so that we can produce and to face massive imports, produce more and at a lower cost," said.

Agricultural leader said that the Dominican field support from the Government, especially livestock, producers of beans of the valle de San Juan, "which come to decrease their production due to lack of official support".

Also cited the situation of producers of bananas and rice, for which called for reduction of costs in what refers to the energy tariff, established a special price duty-free fuel used in agricultural production, diesel.

Argued that another measure might be to put money u000aavailable to the agricultural producers at a rate that ronde 10% a year, and in this regard, he said the rice to take loans in commercial banks with an annual interest of up to 60%.

regarding diseases recently detected in crops of banana, Bonilla called on the authorities of agriculture that must be understood is not only by applying chemicals to combat black Sigatoka, but with an integrated management program, as it was done with the white woolly, and that you should do that the Ministry of agriculture with the support of the Dominican Agroempresarial Board (JAD) and the Dominican Association of landowners and farmers (ADHA).
