The National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Proconsumidor) announced the seizure of 5,198 products from 65 retail shops in the towns of Jarabacoa and Cotuí who were selling products in a bad state, in violation of Law 358-05.
The confiscation of expired products in Jarabacoa and Cotuí comes a week after Proconsumidor said they had incinerated more than eight thousand food products seized in various operations in the National District, Santo Domingo province and other inland areas.
In response, Proconsumidor reported that increased efforts to guide and build up the suppliers and the public about the need to know the laws, such as Consumer Protection law 358-05, is of vital importance to the daily happenings of all Dominicans, "since we are all consumers."
However, the agency said that the information displayed at national level on seizures of expired products should serve as a deterrent.
