Lisandro Macarrulla said he believes that corruption is not limited to the official sector but is present in much of Dominican society's activities.
"I think law enforcement agencies have a role to play, but the Dominican society has to create awareness and try to take a stand against this scourge," he said.
He also said that in the Presidents speech before the Joint session, the private sector would have liked to see a greater commitment to the future and not the breakdown of works already carried out.
"He should have referred more fully to the commitments we make to resume development and economic growth and social development and political development," he said.
Interviewed on local media, Macarrulla said that Fernandez's address was similar to previous ones and had to be more precise about the National Strategic Development Plan.
In relation to economic activity, he indicated that he believed having passed the initial trauma of the global economic crisis, the country must rethink the uses of resources to try to strengthen the productive sectors, creating real sources of wealth, not work on the basis of sustaining external borrowing.
