Costambar row intensifies over access to the beach

This was announced by the president of the Vendors Association, Federico Sims in response to reported suggestions from the Costambar Owners Association that vacationers during Holy Week should avoid Costambar due to the reconstruction of the access road and suggested they go to other beaches in the city of Puerto Plata.
"If that call is heeded and the flow of visitors to Costambar drops and our sales are falling as a result of that request we will sue the Costambar Owners Association," said Sims.
For his part, the secretary of the Association of Vendors and Service Providers at Costambar Beach, Edilberto Pea Martnez stated that the access street that has always been in poor condition, is now better than ever before.
Pea Martinez demanded respect from the leaders of the Costambar Homeowners Association for domestic tourism, to allow Dominicans to have access to the residential and tourist complex.
He said that if the access is restricted members of his Association would hold peaceful protests to allow the entry of Dominicans to the project.
Pea Martinez reported that there are 114 employees who work in the 8 restaurants, 4 gift shops, and other tourist businesses who will be affected if visitor numbers fall this Easter.
The Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Puerto Plata, through their spokesman Jose Tavarez Fernndez, supported the demand of the Association of Retailers and service providers for free access to the beach at Costambar.

The beach looks busy to me!
Bear in mind also that many visitors to Costambar come from Santiago & probably haven't even heard this news.
The beach vendors also contribute to the coffers of APC each month so they would in effect be suing themselves.
Let's all work TOGETHER to make Costambar what it deserves to be - one of the premier beach-front communities in the area.

According to reports I heard & the general noise levels, the beach was absolutely overflowing on Saturday. I've also herd reports of fights, as usual & the ambulance was seen in action twice during the day. A normal busy day at the beach then ...
Sunday was colder & windy so the beach was quieter.
All in all a normal Easter weekend & no reason for the beach vendors to feel hard done-by in my opinion.
