Viewed 10 times.The Member countries of the free trade agreement signed between Central America and Dominican Republic with United States (DR-Cafta), with support from the Inter-American Bank of development (IDB); and the Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America (AACCLA) are organizing a productive and open dialogue between public and private on issues of trade facilitation sector.
The meeting will serve as a platform for the receipt of contributions and views of the private sector about the nature and impact of obstacles which exist in each country and the DR-Cafta region in general, as well as the exchange of views on how to tackle them.
The meeting planned to be held on 23 and 24 of this month at The Biltmore Hotel in Miami, Florida, will feature the participation of senior trade officials of the region and representative groups of the private sector, including multinationals, small and medium-sized enterprises and u000ainstitutions academic.
Participants in the meeting will discuss topics on Customs and facilitation of trade, logistics and chains of supply, and norms techniques.
Two-day meeting will be opened with a reception on Monday, January 23, followed by the presentations and discussions Tuesday 24. Those interested in participating can log into the pages of Cafta-DR, the IDB and other agencies.
Trade facilitation is vital for countries seeking to take advantage of the market access, liberalisation and the economic development opportunities offered by trade agreements international.
Despite the opening up of trade, Dominican Republic, the countries of Central America and the USA, members of the DRCafta, continue to face significant barriers in areas of customs procedures, logistics, and compliance with technical standards and quality in markets objectives.
To meet this u000achallenge, said a report on the meeting of the DR-Cafta, in the first meeting of the Committee of free trade of DR-Cafta held in El Salvador for 22 and 23 February 2011, launched the initiative trade facilitation (IFT) agreement.
This initiative seeks to identify priorities and best practices to implement programs, policies and practices to facilitate trade and systems of chain of supply of the region.
In addition, promoting greater regional integration, increase competitiveness and increase the profits of the trade agreement, with particular emphasis on greater involvement of the SMEs.
