Credit card cloning operation dismantled
posted on: Aug 26 2010 14:54 by Royston. Viewed 746 times.Police officers, assigned to the Central Dept. of Criminal Investigations have dismantled a network of counterfeiters who were using hi-tech equipment to clone credit cards.
A spokesman said that the operation, centered on an abandoned house on the corner of Calle 10 in Las Caitas in Santo Domingo, resulted in the arrest of Abraham Antonio de Lara Candelario.
Police said that they found a machine used to emboss the number and name on credit cards and another piece of equipment for creating the magnetic strip. They also found a card reader for extracting information from cards.
In addition to the counterfeiting equipment, they found 18 cloned credit cards including seven of the BBVA bank, five of the Asociacin Popular de Ahorros y Prestamos, five of La Nacional and one for Solidaridad del Gobierno.
Officers also found white plastic for making blank cards.
Police said that further investigations are under way by the Electronic Fraud Department.
