Crude oil prices curb output to energy crisis

Prices of fuels have become the worst obstacles to recovery and financial stability of companies distributors of electricity (Edes) in the past three years. The numbers set out much of the financial burden the State with the deficit in the energy sector is closely related to this variable.

Another issue affecting the finances of the Edes is that customers, of which slightly more than one million has no meter have 2,150,000. That leaves exposed the inability of companies know how much is lost this way. To this we must add 284,435 customers who benefit from the program Bonoluz, which is billed in basa to a load estimated at their homes.

The fact of having more than one million customers without meter is compounded when one takes into account that the average price of purchase for this year will end in 1809 cents per kilowatt hour in, u000aequivalent to 27 per cent compared to 2010 and a 71.1% if the relationship is with 2009, when the average purchase was 14.28 12.82 cents, respectively.

In 2008, in full world price crisis of the derivatives of oil, the cost per kilowatt hour soared 17.49 cents. However, this year, which will close in 1809, it will be a 3.4% more expensive. The combination of rising prices of fuel oil number 6 and their relative weight explains the growth of the average cost of the energy they have faced the Edes.

Executive Vice President of the Corporation Dominican of companies electrical State (CDEEE), Celso Marranzini, unveiled what in your view have been major achievements during his tenure. Did it in a presentation that took passes week gives to the registration of the House American of trade.

Presentación
official, via a power point presentation, noted that the growth of the price of the u000afuel oil No. 6 has been of great magnitude, which affects the distributors to be of greater relative weight in their contracts for the purchase of energy.

Pointed out that the average price of 2011 implies an increase of 177% over the 2005 and 33% even over the average for 2008 when was the last big crisis of oil internationally.

"It is estimated that at the end of the year will be made purchases for a total of 11,104 gigawatts hour, involving 24% more purchasing power than in 2005 and 9% more than in 2008", argued Marranzini.

In fact, high prices to oil derivatives have contributed have been overshadowed in part advances experienced in the field of management logistics in the distribution of electricity.

Despite the obstacles that have represented the prices of crude oil, Marranzini said the efforts of the State electricity sector have also focused on illuminating avenues, u000abridges, prisons and parks to strengthen public safety and dignify the spaces public.

, Three publishers have installed or repaired this year 24,623 luminaries in the region North, South, East, and in sectors of the National District and the Santo Domingo province. Here are inverito RD$ 106.7 million.

While actions to reduce the losses, in a context of limited resources, have focused on the replacement of the PRA (blackout reduction program) program by the targeted subsidy Bonoluz, rehabilitation and readjustment of electrical networks, investment in telemetry, standardization of clients and prosecution through judicial channels.

The official stressed the rehabilitation programme that is developed with an investment of RD$ 6,000 million and networks allowing one million customers to enjoy service 24-hour electricity.

"Is not a secret that in the CDEEE, and in the" u000adistribution companies the procurement of goods and services respond to the interests of their senior executives. The technical specifications of the materials and services were a suit tailored to companies acting in collusion with the executive staff and technical companies. There were simply a lack of management and neatness in the electricity sector. "Today this is different," said Marranzini before the American Chamber.

Celso Marranzini said that the Dominican State has the responsibility directly in terms of generating hydroelectric power.

In this sense, the hydroelectricity generation company (Egehid) put into operation in 2009 the central of Pinalito adding 50 megawatts of power to the system. 2012 Will be in operation the central of Palomino, with close to 80 megawatts. power

According to the data provided by the CDEEE, these two u000aworks involve an increase of 33 per cent of installed hydropower capacity and it will allow the distribution companies to access to energy at prices reduced by up to 60% on current average purchase prices repair stations Jigiley, avocado and contraembalse Las Bariah with funding from the World Bank through an emergency loan was launched in May 2010.

He also stressed that in recent years the generating company Laesa added 60 megawatts additional headquartered Pimentel which can operate with gas natural.

In addition, Haina and electric company of Punta Cana Macau (CEPM) enterprises recently opened the first wind farm in the country and the Caribbean, with 33 megawatts of installed capacity.

Marranzini said that in 2012 the company Aggreko will install a power of 100 megawatts of capacity whose energy will be delivered to Edenorte.

In 2012 will be installed and u000aIt will begin to supply energy to CDEEE, the first Park in photovoltaic power in the country with a capacity of 30 megawatts. Will be in Monte Plata.

The AES group will be in operation next year also the San Lorenzo, power plant fuelled by natural gas, with a capacity of 34 MW.

Also AES has been investing in the closure of the combined cycle of the power plant Los Mina, also to natural gas, to increase capacity at 100 megawatts.
