Viewed 20 times.Dominican Republic is poised to take measures to counter continuing exports of recyclable batteries, for which the Ministry of environment and the Customs Directorate shall provide the implementation of the Basel Convention, which among its objectives envisaged strict control over the handling of the lead in the 178 signatories.
With such purposes, the Minister of environment, Ernesto Reyna, and the director-general of customs, Rafael Camilo, met in their respective offices with two senior officials of the Basel Convention, who came to demand the implementation of the Convention.
The rules of the multilateral convention promoted by the Organization of the United Nations, establishes the ban on the export of batteries, favouring recycling local.
Incumbents of environment and customs received separately, Miguel Araújo, director of the Basel Convention Regional Centre for Central America, u000aMexico and Caribbean, and Brian Wilson, the International Centre for the management of the lead expert.
Both Reyna as Camilo reiterated its approval of the use of green technology by industries Meteor, company that has invested more than $10 million in the construction of a recycling plant for used batteries, in a process step by step certified by the Agency International.
The President of the company, José Antonio Rodríguez, also participated in the meetings of the officials with the visitors.
