The Director General of Customs (DGA) yesterday seized a cache of drinks, weapons, cartridges, two trucks, two Jeeps and a car, in a surprise anti-smuggling operation conducted by intelligence officers of customs and the Criminal Investigation department of the National Police in the town of Boca Chica.

The DGA announced that during the operation, Customs Intelligence officials and police arrested 12 people from a group involved in smuggling goods from the ports of  Multimodal Caucedo and Boca Chica.
Investigations had established that this gang operated in Boca Chica and had connections within the ports.

The operation took place in the morning  on Thursday at Andres, Boca Chica, where agents recovered from a house on Main Street; 800 boxes of Absolut Vodka, a pistol from the Czech Republic, a Mossberg shotgun with six cartridges, two Daihatsu trucks, two Mitsubishi Jeeps, a Daihatsu Terios, and a Honda car.
In recent weeks, Customs have been increasing their actions against  smuggling and have also seized stolen electric and telephone cables.

The operation was conducted jointly by the Intelligence Department of the DGA and the Central Directorate of Criminal Investigations of the National Police. The investigation followed information that a shipment of Vodka had been illegally taken from the Caucedo port
The operation was led by General Claudio Peguero, supervisor for security and intelligence of the DGA, who said the investigation remains open.
