Death crash drivers body exhumed for autopsy

It is not clear why the autopsy was not carried out earlier, but yesterday the prosecutor of the Santo Domingo province ruled that an autopsy should be done. He said it was necessary to determine if, as has been speculated, the driver suffered a heart attack at the wheel of his bus when it plunged into the sea, killing 11 and seriously wounding 16.
The director of the National Institute of Forensic Pathology, Santo Jimnez Pez said the exhumation was done at the request of prosecutors, who acted under pressure from the public to discover the cause of the accident, which occurred at kilometer 11 on the Las Americas highway. He said the results will be announced this week.
Dr. Jimenez Paez and the prosecutor of the province of Santo Domingo, Perfecto Acosta and deputy Pedro Galarza, all agreed that they would have expected an autopsy to have routinely been carried out precisely to avoid the current speculation about the cause of the accident. They confirmed that this procedure is normal in the case of all types of fatal accidents.
Galarza, explained that the exhumation was being done with the full co-operation of the widow, Maria Adames.
Adames, mother of 3 children, denied that her husband was suffering from any disease, and said she wanted to end the hurtful speculation about the cause of the crash.
