Death toll rises to 650

Tropical storm Washi, which swept through the southern Philippines, caused more than 650 people dead and missing, 800 and left thousands homeless, water or electricity, in a desolate landscape invaded yesterday by the stench of dead bodies decomposed.

Washi, which reached the Philippines coast on Friday evening, killing at least 652 people, and over 808 are the list of missing persons, yesterday said the Red Cross in a new balance.

Waters swept the entire villages and destroyed roads and bridges, according to witnesses.

"The affected regions are so extensive that searches could not cover the entire area." "Many houses were dragged by the waters, which means that the bodies (of people) were also displaced", stated yesterday Gwen Pang, general Secretary of this charitable organization.

"For the moment only are counting the bodies in morgues", said Pang.
