Dengue abates in Santo Domingo but continues in Santiago

The official spoke during a tour of the Dengue Unit at Robert Reid Cabral Children's Hospital, where fewer patients were being admitted with Dengue symptoms. According to its director Emilio Mena Castro, on Saturday only six dengue patients were admitted, compared to double that in recent days.
However, in Santiago, the picture is very different.
Yesterday, young Rosideth Sanchez, 16, was buried, which brings to 19 the number of victims of dengue in the Santiago area where dozens of families are mourning their loss.
Most victims of dengue in Santiago have died in the Dr. Arturo Grullon Children's Hospital although victims have also died in the Hospital "Jose Maria Cabral y Baez" and there was also a death in the Mother and Child Institute.
The Public Health Minister said that one of the reasons dengue has killed over 30 people and affected more than six thousand, is that four viruses are circulating which add to the problems of the dengue fever itself.
In this regard, he reiterated his call to the municipalities and the population in general to prevent the breeding of dengue mosquitoes.
He reported that this week the prevention and control operation will continue, helped by enough donations of chemicals from the Lottery for four weeks work.
