The figure of Havel, who championed the baptized as "Velvet Revolution", democratic transition process in 1989 was upheld by politicians and leaders Europeans, from the French President Nicolas Sarkozy, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, passing by the Prime Minister, David Cameron.
Though he always enjoyed great prestige abroad, Havel lost popularity in his country and his last presidential period (1998-2003) confronted the ruling class and one of the most influential leaders, Economist Vaclav Klaus and former political ally of the civic forum in the transition to democracy, to end up becoming ferocious enemies.
