Digital TV by 2015

Viewed 453 times.The Dominican government has adopted the U.S. ATSC system for development in the country of the Digital Terrestrial Television ( DTT) by 2015. This news was reported by the president of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications ( Indotel ).
The chairman of the regulator, Jos Rafael Vargas, said that after studying for years the various international standards for digital television, the U.S. System had been chosen.
TV Broadcasters will have five years to purchase equipment to make the conversion from analog to digital television, according to a decree read by Vargas.
The Directorate General of Customs will facilitate the import of equipment needed by the stations to implement the digital system.
"We have five years to have the best television of the modern world," said Vargas.
He reported that Indotel will chair the committee leading the transition to digital television .
This committee will be composed of representatives of the State Corporations of Radio and Television (CERT ) , the Association of Dominican Broadcasters, UHF and VHF broadcasters and subscription television .
In Latin America, most countries have chosen the Japanese ISDB- T (Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting Terrestrial) system, including Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Paraguay, Peru and Venezuela.
The four available options to pick from were:
A) American ATSC (Advanced Television System Committee)
B) European DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting Terrestrial)
C) Japanese ISDB-T (Integrated Service Digital Broadcasting Terrestrial)
D) Chinese DTMB (Digital Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcasting).
