DNCD arrests it's own officers for drug trafficking

The president of the DNCD, Major General Rolando Rosado Mateo, reported that the arrests were in connection with approximately eight alleged trips to Miami from Santiago which resulted in more than 1,000Kg of cocaine being taken out of the country. He did not release the names of those involved but said they would all be appearing in court.
He said the arrests were the result of an investigation concluded on Thursday by the DNCD in co-ordination with the Ministry of the Armed Forces, the Special Corps of Airport Security of Santiago and the City Prosecutor.
Rosado Mateo explained that the officers had colluded with drug traffickers to allow the cocaine to get on board Spirit Air flights to Miami.
The DNCD president was speaking to reporters at the graduation ceremony of 31 officers of the DNCD and the Directorate General of Customs after a training course sponsored by the British Embassy.
He said that technical knowledge alone is no guarantee they will succeed in the fight against drug trafficking, if they do not make the personal and family values that have been traditional in Dominican life.
"The DNCD and the Armed Forces will always be attentive to the conduct of their agents and reward their good deeds, also punish those who betray the confidence of the institution and the government," he said.
He said the armed forces and the DNCD are at war against internal corruption and hoped that its members would not engage with the enemy, because when they join the drug trade "they do not know if that drug poisons the brains of their loved ones."
