The plane was being pursued by the DNCD in an army helicopter and the fate of the crew of the downed aircraft is not known.

DNCD has officially neither confirmed nor denied the reports, bur sources have revealed that crew of the plane fired shots at the helicopter and the DNCD agents returned fire with high caliber weapons.
Reports have suggested that the plane had just dropped several bundles of cocaine over the National Park and was about to leave the area when the DNCD agents caught up with it in their helicopter. Ten kilos of cocaine were recovered from the scene.
The helicopter used in the pursuit is the only one available to the authorities for night operations having been equipped with night vision apparatus in cooperation with the US Army.
The sources have also revealed that the remains of the plane were located about five miles from the island of Saona, where a team of counter-narcotics agents had spent three days and observed two other aborted attempts at cocaine bombing.
If the reports are eventually verified, this will be the first time such an aerial confrontation has been recorded. It is believed the DNCD utilized its specialized team known as the Rapid Action Unit (URT - Unidad de Accin Rpida) which is deployed in areas used by the cartels to bomb cocaine. Also involved would be the Joint Task Force, known by the acronym DEPROSER.
