More than 300 children from the Samaná Province, on the country’s northeast region, recently participated in the “Paint our Whales” contest, organized by the Association of Hotels and Tourism Companies of Samaná and Samaná’s Tourism Cluster.

The contest was part of the many activities scheduled for the annual Whale Festival, promoted by the Center for Conservation and Eco-Development of the Bay of Samaná and its surroundings, the United States Agency for International Development’s Environmental Protection Program and The Nature Conservancy.

The contest was sponsored by the following tourism-related companies: Viva Residence, Bahia Principe, El Portillo Beach Club & Spa, Xeliter Vista Mare and “Balcones del Atlantico.”

More than 10 educational centers situated in communities throughout the province participated in the contest.  The country’s whale watching season begins on January 15 and ends the last week in March.

Children Paint the Whales that Annually Migrate to Samaná

The Bay of Samaná is the Caribbean’s most important whale watching site. The bay is also considered to be one of the most beautiful in the world.
