Dominican crowned World Kite Boarding champ
posted on: Jun 21 2010 10:5 by Royston. Viewed 428 times.The Dominican, Ariel Cornielle, became world champion by winning last Friday 's 9th World Kiteboarding Championship held on Bozo Beach at Cabarete. 
The women's event was won by three times world champion, Gisela Pulido from Spain.
Cornielle was always considered one of the favourites to win the Cup and produced an outstanding acrobatic display for the judges.
Of the 53 competitors, 20 came from various different countries. Second place went to Kevin Lengeree from the Netherlands and the Italian Alberto Rondita finished third after beating Youris Zoon another Dutchman.
In the Women's event, after the Spanish Champion, Joanna Litwin from Poland came second and Carolina Winkowska, also from Poland was third, after beating the Brazilian, Bruna Kajiya.
The Dominican Susi Mai, who has represented the Dominican Republic in international competitions, did not achieve a place this year.
Cabarete is considered the world capital of Kiteboarding, since it is favored with exceptional wind conditions perfect for the sport.
This Ninth Kiteboarding World Cup had the endorsement of the PKRA World Tour, because it meets the conditions of a five -star event and factor base 7 of the International Kiteboarding Association.
