Dominican journalist murdered in drugs trafficking case
posted on: Aug 3 2011 10:55 by The Reporter. Viewed 928 times. The body of journalist José Silvestre, who had been kidnapped in La Romana, was found on Tuesday morning beside the main Eastern highway in La Romana province, near El Peñón, Sabana del Soco, between La Romana and San Pedro.
The body was found face face up with two bullet wounds, one in the abdomen and another in the neck.
He was wearing a yellow shirt, dark pants and was barefoot.
According to witnesses, he had been abducted by four men in a gold colored Ford Explorer SUV.
A shot was later heard just minutes away in nearby Gastón Deligne Steet.
The victim's sister who was nearby said José tried to fight off the abductors, but they overpowered him and forced him into the car.
Silvestre was characterized by persistent allegations against drug trafficking in La Romana through various radio programs and a magazine, known as "La Voz de la Verdad", the "Voice of Truth".
He had recently had been arrested on defamation charges by the La Romana Chief prosecutor, José Polanco, after the reporter accused him of having links to drug trafficking.
Silvestre's body was taken to the Antonio Musa Hospital morgue.
