Dominican town cut off by rock landslides after quake
posted on: Jan 5 2012 10:41 by The Reporter. Viewed 221 times.The Emergency Operations Center (COE), reported that the quake which was felt at 5:35 minutes in the morning caused cracking in at least eight buildings in San José de Ocoa.
COE Director, General Juan Manuel Mendez said that they had received reports that the community El Pinar, in Azua, is cut off due to a landslide of rocks blocking the road.
Similarly, the COE reported that there were also landslides of rocks on the Sánchez road, on the stretch of near El Número..
The Agency reported that it is working to restore the road access in the shortest time possible.
Mendez explained that they are assessing various provinces in the country to determine if there are more communities or buildings affected.
Indicated that a Commission from the Agency, headed by its Chief of Operations, Erdwin Olivares, will visit the provinces of San José de Ocoa and Azua in the next few minutes in order to provide a more detailed report on what has happened in those localities.
